Information on November 2-3 Meeting Hi folks!! First things first, how about them Cougs? How about them Mariners? What a season. Has YOUR Fall started well? I hope that the enthusiasm of your Summer session stays with you as school starts and the pressures of your other commitments and expectations become more real. I have just returned from my Regional Coordinators’ meeting in Seattle. I spent three days learning, discovering, and preparing for our adventures to come in Wenatchee. I have a great deal of information to share: please print and read this document thoroughly, as it reviews some of your obligations as a participant and your district’s obligations. One of the things I appreciated most about this project is the fact that the weekend trainings and the expectations validated my role as a teacher and a leader in the education arena. The Teacher Leadership Project recognizes you as a professional and will strive to treat you as such. That is why we do many of the things we do: because you are a professional, we will endeavor to treat you as such. Before I get into the list of items regarding the Regional Meeting, let me again congratulate you on being selected as a participant and welcome you to the ongoing component of the project designed to help you become an even better teacher leader! The Agenda is not yet done. But it should be ready when I send out the curriculum letter in a couple of days. Anyway, this Fall at our regional meeting, we will be engaged in working on a curricular unit that you can use in your own class. Bring a topic that you would like to design a lesson around. We will be using the EALRs that were loaded on your computer at the summer session. You might want to look through those files if you have an opportunity. This Fall we will be using some new curriculum material that has been created by the TLP leadership. Within the next couple of days, I will be sending you an address to find these files on the TLP website. If you have not checked it out, I suggest that you go to http://www.esd189.org/tlp/index.html Other items to bring? Ø You need to bring your Understanding by Design Handbook and you should have read through the Overview and Stage one and have looked through Stage three. Ø Bring your laptop and don’t forget your power cable and external mouse if you have one. Ø Bring your teaching certificate number and, if you hope to earn SPU credit or clock hours, don’t forget your check book, cash, or credit card. This weekend’s clock hours or credits are under $40.00. Ø Also bring books, rubrics, ideas, and any other curriculum materials that you can use to design an integrated lesson for your classroom. Ø Finally, I suggest that your bring a sweater. Some of those rooms can get rather cold. Please remember to let me know right away of ANY dietary needs. By the way, a few of you asked about your journal assignments. Your first journal is due November, 12th. There is some information on the requirements and where to email them at http://www.esd189.org/tlp/yr2/reflect_journal.html I hope to address any other concerns you might have during our Fall training. If you need directions to the hotel, they can be found online at http://www.esd189.org/tlp/yr2/hotel_loc.html#6
If there is a topic that you would be willing to share at a help desk or if there are specific items you would like to see offered in a help desk, please let me know.
Take care, Dean Smith
Note: Last year, a few people chose to not eat breakfast with the group. If you do not think that you will make it down for breakfast and do not plan to eat with us, please let me know now so that I can tell the hotel management.
